Shelter Assistant Director
Location: Safe Haven of Mt Carmel; Mt Carmel, Illinois
Status: Part Time; Hours could be day shift or night shift, weekend and week days with a rotating on call schedule.

Primary Purpose:

Under the supervision of the Director and Board of Directors, the Assistant Director will work to provide
homeless woman and children a safe and comfortable place to reside on their ways to becoming self-
sufficient.

Qualifications

-high school diploma or equivalent (required)
-US work authorization
-Available to work any shift that may include overnight stays

Job Duties:

Working Hours would be 20-25 hours a week.
Provide on call coverage with other staff to ensure the shelter has coverage that includes on call for
alternating weekends and overnights.
Preparing schedules for coverage at the shelter for paid employees and volunteers.
Recruit and train volunteer support for the shelter and fundraisers.
Screening of potential residents, and upkeep to resident files.
Discharge procedures for residents leaving the shelter.
Ensure residents have food, clothing and toiletries and shop to restock inventories.
Answer incoming calls and field community questions.
Model and teach accountability, respect, trust, and appropriate behaviors relating to shelter rules and
guidelines.
Will support and maintain a conducive environment that promotes the emotional, mental, and physical
growth of residents.
Advocate for resident needs.
Speak at public events to request charitable contributions.
Maintain confidentiality of residents.
Participate in staff meetings.
Communication skills a must.
Computer skills a plus.
Must have reliable transportation.
