Safe Haven is an organization brought to our community by local pastors belonging to the Ministerial Alliance. Once the idea came about it took two years of praying, planning and working to reach accomplishment. In August of 2015 the shelter began operation 24 hours a day/ 365 days a year.
Safe Haven is a temporary emergency shelter for homeless women and children in the greater Wabash County area. The staff at Safe Haven makes it a top priority to treat all who receive help with dignity and respect.
The shelter offers spiritual, physical, and emotional support alongside a safe place to reside. The goal is to help mothers transition to self-efficiency. Safe Haven uses resources within the community to provide mothers and children with services such as counseling, parenting classes, and support groups. They also help locate resources that help with items such as food, formula, diapers, etc.
Safe Haven is here to help mothers set goals for themselves and their children while standing by them until those goals are reached. The staff has helped young children reach important milestones during their stay at Safe Haven.
The shelter is always accepting donations from the community to “help them help others.” They are currently in need of canned goods and non-perishable food items and are always grateful for any and all monetary donations. The community is invited to call the shelter anytime to inquire about the current “needs list” and is encouraged to call ahead and make an appointment when wishing to drop off items. Safe Haven is also in need of volunteers available and willing to donate their time during evening, night, or weekend hours.
This is a wonderful organization providing a great service to our community! If you or someone you know is in need of assistance, or if you are looking to get involved in something great, give them a call or visit them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/safe.haven.758/ today.
