Harris Insurance Group, Ltd. had its beginning in Fairfield, Illinois in 1984. Herb Harris, who had been in the insurance business since 1959, started the independent agency. In 1986, a second location started in Mt. Carmel.
In 1986 Mike joined his Father’s Insurance Agency and they opened an office in Mount Carmel. He has worked as an Independent Insurance Broker since 1983. He was fortunate enough to grow up in the business watching his Father and was able to work with him until his retirement in 2019 after having worked in the insurance industry for 60 years.
Mike is working with his sister who is part-owner of the agency and works in Fairfield. They incorporated the agency in 2020 and are now known as Harris Insurance Group, Ltd. Their agency has won numerous sales awards with Pekin Insurance Company for their life sales and property-casualty sales. Those awards are The Key Award, Full Circle Award and Underwriter of Merit Award. These awards have been won numerous times since 1986.
Mike’s youngest daughter, Kristen Sullivan, joined Harris Insurance in the Mount Carmel office in January of 2022 and is now a fully licensed Independent Insurance Agent. Kristen is now the third generation of their agency to be working within the agency. She is also working on getting her Real Estate Brokers License. Kristen is married to James Sullivan and they have three children. Mike’s CSR, Sharon Blood has been in the insurance industry since 1979 and started working for them in 2003.
Mike is also a member of the Police and Fire Commission as well as Crime stoppers and Market Street MTC. Market Street MTC has given him the opportunity to work on things for the Mount Carmel, Wabash County community such as the pavilion at Merchants Park as well as other future additions to Merchants Park. He has great members to work with on the Market Street MTC board.
