Big Jon's Lunch Box
Address: 123 W 4th Street Mt. Carmel, IL
Big Jon’s Lunchbox came to the community in May of 2011. Owned by Jonathon and Brenda Wirth the restaurant is not only family owned but also family operated. The Wirth Children are a very important part of the restaurant and its daily operations. Jed Wirth, described as his fathers “right hand man”, can be found cooking on the grill daily. Dennis and Hannah Wirth can be found in the dining area as well as around the establishment helping where help is needed. The children, who are home-schooled, can learn working skills without interrupting daily education.
The restaurant came about after the Wirth’s decided they would like to own a business the family could work at together. Jon had worked out of the home for many years. After working 14 years for the Mt. Carmel School District, he was employed at a local manufacturing plant for another 14 years. He always had a passion for cooking and preparing food and a dream of owning his own restaurant. Brenda says, “We opened on a leap of faith, and it’s been good!”
The restaurant offers a variety of foods and services to the community. While Jon is well known for his catfish, ham loaf, and roast beef, they have also left quite an impression on the community with their delicious plate lunches, served daily. The restaurant is a great place to find good ‘ol downhome cooking! You will find the restaurant serves catfish and fairground fish daily. They also have a great variety of homemade pies made fresh every morning by Mrs. Wirth.
Big Jon’s Lunchbox also offers a catering service with experience helping customers meet their needs for groups of all sizes. They are available for weddings, office parties, large company gatherings, holiday parties and more! Because all the food is made from scratch the Wirth’s can create a menu to suite your needs.
The Wirth Family invite you and your family to dine-in or carryout and let them do the cooking!
