The Southeastern Illinois Area Agency on Aging was founded in 1975 under an amendment to the Older Americans Act of 1965. The Southeastern Illinois Area Agency on Aging (SEIAoA) is one of 13 area agencies in the State of Illinois. There are 670 area agencies across the country. Southeastern Illinois Area Agency on Aging is part of a vast National Network dedicated to providing programs and services to protect the rights and support the needs of older Americans. This Network includes the Federal Level, (Administration on Aging) State Level (Illinois Dept. on Aging).

Community Resource Centers and Café’s: Designated by SEIAoA, offers centers in each of the 9 counties of Wabash, Wayne, Edwards, White, Lawrence, Crawford, Jasper, Richland, and Hamilton. SEIAoA designates a community Resource Center and Café to deliver multiple services like Senior Health Insurance, Medicare Initiative Alignment Programs, Congregate and Home Delivered Meals, Information and Assistance, Options Counseling, Transportation and GAP funding for caregivers and caregivers rearing relatives/grandchildren.

Coordination activities are conducted toward the development of a comprehensive and integrated service delivery system through the establishment of working relationships with other funding agencies and service providers.

In 1965 the OAA is enacted and contains ten broad policy objectives aimed at improving the lives of older persons:

  • Retirement in health, honor, and dignity
  • Participate in and contribute to meaningful activity

Services

Senior Medicare Patrol-(SMP) Program empowers consumers to prevent healthcare fraud. Detect Medicare & Medicaid fraud, waste, and abuse. Report Medicare & Medicaid fraud, waste, and abuse.

Senior Employment Specialist Program-Serving individuals 55+ which consists of upgrading existing skills, development of new skills, exposure to educational opportunities, and counseling and assistance in finding and keeping a job to help improve their lives.

ADRDBenefits- Alzheimer’s Dementia Related Disorder funding available. Need in-home support or other needs to age successfully in your home, we can help!

Access Application (formerly Circuit Breaker)-BAA is for Illinois Residents, age 65 or older or with a disability, and who meet certain income requirements to receive license plate discounts.

SHIP – Senior Health Insurance Program is a service to help with obtaining the right information in Medicare Part D, Medicare billing, Medicare Supplements and Medicare A,B, and C.

Adult Protective Services – Is locally coordinated through the Illinois Department on Aging, Southeastern Illinois Area Agency on Aging and our local provider SWAN. All APS Supervisors and Caseworkers are trained and certified by the Illinois Department on Aging.

Transportation – Services are delivered through RIDES Mass transit. Available to deliver you or your loved one to the Senior Resource Center, Dr. appointments and Shopping. Trips are also a fun addition and available at each Senior Resource Center.

Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource-https://alz.org/alzheimer_s_dementia and Alzheimer’s and Dementia related GAP funding available.

Legal Services – Providing legal services to Senior Illinoisans 60 years of age or older. Appointments taken at your local Senior Center.

Ombudsman-The Illinois Long Term Care Ombudsman Program protects and promotes the rights and quality of life for people who live in long term care facilities.

VIP- The Veterans Independence Program is designed to meet the identified needs of the Veteran to assure health and safety and feasible alternatives to Nursing Home Care https://www.illinois.gov/aging/Resources/NewsAndPublications/PressReleases/Pages/2010-0703vip.aspx

Strong For Life – A balance and band training program, used to offer strength training at a more stationary approach. This exercise will help the participant gain better strength through resistance.

Congregate and Home Delivered Meals – Are funded meal programs through the Older Americans Act. These nutritious meals are available at each Senior Resource Center in the nine counties we serve. Some satellite sites are also available.

Information and Assistance/Referrals – Will help guide you with answers to the questions posed within Aging and Disability services/needs. Each Senior Resource Center and Area Agency is able to guide you through the road map to “aging in place.”
